The No. 16 Nebraska softball team fell to the No. 4 UCLA Bruins, 9-1, in six innings on Thursday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.

The game was tied 1-1 after three innings and Nebraska trailed just 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but UCLA pulled away with two runs in the fifth and five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The difference in the game proved to be situational hitting, as Nebraska was 0-for-13 with runners on base while UCLA was 7-for-14.

Hannah Camenzind (1-1) took the loss for the Huskers (9-3), while Taylor Tinsley (2-0) claimed the win for UCLA (11-1).  Camenzind started and allowed only one hit in 3.1 innings, but she was charged with two runs. Kylee Magee gave up four runs in 2.0 innings, while Emmerson Cope allowed three runs in 0.1 innings.

Offensively, Jordyn Bahl, Kacie Hoffmann and Hannah Camenzind notched a hit apiece for NU.

UCLA struck first in the bottom of the second on an Aleena Garcia triple that scored Seneca Curo.

Abbie Squier walked in the top of the third and advanced to second on a Lauren Camenzind sacrifice bunt. Squier eventually came around to score Nebraska's lone run on a Samantha Bland sacrifice fly that tied the score at 1-1.

The Bruins took the 2-1 lead back in the bottom of the fourth after a Curo sacrifice fly sent Rylee Pinedo to the plate.

UCLA continued to extend its lead in the bottom of the fifth, as Cal Poly transfer Jessica Clements notched a two-run single. The Bruins led 4-1 going into the sixth and notched four runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 9-1 victory.

The Huskers will play one game tomorrow, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. (CT) against No. 11 Duke at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The game will be streamed on FloSoftball and can be heard for free across the Huskers Radio Network.
