Strong Nucleus Back For GICC Girls

(Grand Island, NE) - It will be forever known as the "Ruby Five" season for the GICC girl's basketball team last year that finished 24-4, a Centennial Conference tournament championship, and a fourth-place finish at the C1 state basketball tournament. The Crusaders lost two of the three "Ruby Five" players to graduation Carolyn Maser and Avery O'Boyle.

Three starters return to lead the charge for fourth-year head coach Kevin Mayfield including seniors Anna Tibbets (6ppg), Maggie Herbek (8ppg), and Bryndal Moody (11ppg). The Crusaders also have fellow seniors stepping up with Jordan Stegman, Alex Herbek, and Lauren Schardt. Juniors Jacie Palik and Reegan Riley return for GICC along with sophomores Elle Tibbets and Izzy Mueller. 

GICC opens up the season (GICC Earlybird Tournament) at Omaha Gross Catholic vs the Cougars at 5:30 pm (105.5 FM/KRGI) on Thursday, December 5th. The Crusaders will then turn around and play Saturday vs Norfolk Catholic or Lincoln Lutheran at 1:00 pm.
