South Street to Close in Hastings for Repairs

South Street will be closed between Burlington and Lincoln Avenues shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, July 9 to facilitate the planned rehabilitation of a manhole at the intersection of Burlington Avenue and South Street.

Work on the project will be done by Hastings Utility Department underground construction crews and is expected to take about one week to complete.

The outside northbound lane and southbound left turn lane will be closed during the manhole work.

The manhole rehabilitation will occur the same time that South Street is already closed to the east, between Lincoln and Hastings Avenues, for curb and gutter, street, and driveway replacement work following a water main break on June 23.

Curb and gutter removal is being done by Utility Department underground construction crews. Pavement work will be done by contractors.

The Lincoln and Hastings Avenue intersections will remain open. Those streets, along with B Street, will serve as a detour. The block of South Street between Lincoln and Hastings Avenues has been closed since the water main break on June 23.

B Street is used as the detour because the intersection at B Street and Burlington Avenue is signaled and will better accommodate detour traffic.

The work on South Street between Hastings and Lincoln Avenues began Monday, July 6 and is anticipated to take three weeks to complete. The extended duration is needed for the scope of the work.
