Softball: Northwest Claims Central Conference Crown

(Crete, NE) - The Northwest Viking softball claimed the Central Conference tournament championship on Thursday. The Vikings opened up the day with a 9-0 win over Aurora, then defeated Hwy6 in the semi-finals 10-2, and claimed the championship with a win over Seward 11-3. In the Seward contest, Northwest was down 1-0 early but then found themselves tied with the Jays at 3-3. Northwest would break the tie in the fourth with a Becca Dinkelman solo home run as Northwest would have three runs in the frame. The Vikings would then open things up even further in the bottom of the fifth with a Reyse Zobel home run followed by an RBI double by Ava Smith. Northwest would end the game by scoring seven runs. The Vikings are currently on an eight-game winning streak with a current record of 17-6 and will be back in action at 3pm on Monday, October 8th hosting O'Neill in the B-8 Sub District Tournament. The game following Northwest will be GICC vs Hastings at 5pm. Listen live on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com. If Northwest or Central Catholic win their first-round games on Monday they will play at 7:00 pm on Monday night on KRGI.
