Northwest Volleyball Downs Aurora

(Aurora, NE) - The Northwest volleyball team defeated rival Aurora on Tuesday night three sets to one. (17-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-15) The Huskies came out and served aggressively which led to a 25-17 first set win for Aurora. On the night Aurora had 14 ace serves. In the second set Northwest start passing the ball better that led to more attacks and a 26-24 win in the 2nd set to even the match at 1-1. The Vikings would then battle back again in the 3rd set to win 26-24. Northwest would call a time-out in the 3rd set when the Vikings were down 24-21. Northwest would fight back tying the set at 24 all after an Aurora timeout. Northwest would then win the next two points to take a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth set, Northwest would run out to a 15-11 lead forcing a Husky timeout. The Vikings would not give up the lead as later they would have a 20-13 advantage that would later end in the match victory by claiming the fourth set 25-15. 

Out of the 14 ace serves from Aurora they were led by Hailey Hoff with 5 aces. Morgan Calkins would have 4 ace serves. The Huskies were led by Kenna Merrihew with 12 kills. Kaitlyn Staehr and Elizabeth Luebbe each had 6 kills. Aurora with the loss is now 3-15. The next action for the Huskies will be Thursday, September 26th at Central City. Listen live on 97.3 FM. 

Northwest was led by freshman Ava Janulewicz with 11 kills on the night. The Vikings would get a big night from 6-1 senior middle Izzy Burhman who would have 8 kills, 5 blocks, and 3 ace serves. Also for the Vikings Tessa Scheer would have 8 kills, Kelsey Knapp 5 kills, Kenna Bowman 2 kills, and Alivia Wragge 5 kills. The Vikings with the win are now 8-6 on the season. Northwest will next be in action on Thursday, September 26th hosting Kearney Catholic. Listen live on 103.1 FM starting at 7:00 pm.
