Northwest Softball Falls In Season Opener
(Hastings, NE) - The 2022 high school softball season started on Thursday night for two of the top teams in Class B at the Bill Smith Softball Complex as Hastings hosted Northwest. The Tigers prevailed 8-2. Hastings would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a Sam Schmidt home run. Northwest would then answer with back-to-back RBI singles by Reyse Zobel and Kylie Caspersen to make it 2-1 Vikings. Those two hits for Northwest would be the only ones in the game as Northwest had trouble adjusting to the Tiger pitching of Alyssa Breckner. Sam Schmidt would take the game back over for Hastings slamming a 2 run home run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 3-2 Hastings. That score would hold until the Tigers would break things open in the bottom of the sixth scoring five additional runs making it 8-2. Hastings & Northwest will both be back in action this Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Complex in Grand Island for a double dual with Beatrice and Omaha Skutt Catholic. Below listen to a post-game interview with Head Coach Mitch Sadd.
