Northwest Basketball Splits At Boone Central

(Albion, NE) - The Northwest girls and boys basketball teams hit the road Thursday night to take on Boone Central. The Viking girls would fall 48-43 to the Cardinals. Northwest boys would claim a 47-45 victory. 

The girl's contest would see Northwest control a close game through three quarters but in the fourth see their slim lead slip away. The Vikings would lead 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. Northwest would head into the halftime break with a 19-15 advantage. Boone Central would outscore Northwest 12-10 to only trail the black and gold 29-27. The Cardinals would then make the comeback complete with a 21-14 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Boone Central (8-12) snapped a five-game losing streak and takes the victory in their regular season finale with sub-district post-season next week for the Cardinals. The Vikings (10-9) will be back in action tonight, Feb. 9th, hosting Beatrice at 5:30 pm. Listen live on 103.1 FM & 2dayfm1031.com. 

The boy's game would be an absolute slugfest. The see-saw affair would see the two teams deadlocked at 23 all going into the halftime break. The two teams would trade buckets left in right in the third quarter with the Vikings outscoring the Cardinals 16-14 for a 39-37 lead. Right away in the fourth quarter, both teams would find themselves tied at 39 all. Austin Wiese of Boone Central would hit a two-pointer with 4:50 left for the Cardinals to take a 41-39 lead. Northwest would answer right away with a three-pointer by Cam Walker and the Vikings would take the lead for good with 3:19 left in the game. Walker had a night for Northwest to lead the Vikings with 18 points. Boone Central (15-6) will have their regular season finale for next action on February 16th at Crofton. Northwest (7-11) has won three in a row and will be back in action tonight, Feb. 9th, hosting Beatrice at 7:15 pm. Listen live on 103.1 FM & 2dayfm1031.com.
