Northwest Basketball Has A Tuesday Night Split With Hastings


(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest Vikings would host Hastings on Tuesday night. The girl's game would see Northwest win 38-29. The two teams would be deadlocked 13 all at halftime. Hastings would cling to a 22-21 lead at the end of the three quarters. The difference in the game was the final quarter. Northwest would cash in on four made three-pointers in the fourth highlighted by three from senior Reagan McIntyre who finished with a team-leading 17 points. Jolie O'Hara would knock have the fourth three made in the quarter as Northwest would outscore the Tigers 17-7 in the fourth. Hasting girls with the loss are now 4-14. The Viking girls are now 13-6 on the season and snap a two-game skid after falling last week to Seward and Crete in the semi-finals and third-place game in the Central Conference tournament. 

In the second game of the night Hastings High would control the contest from the jump in route to a 64-44 victory over Northwest. The Tigers jumped on top early 7-0 and would not look back. The Viking's first points of the night wouldn't come until the 5:40 mark of the 1st quarter. Northwest would trail by ten at halftime, 32-22. Hastings came out in the third quarter and stepped on the gas again outscoring the Vikings 16-5 to lead 48-27. Senior forward Parker Ablott led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Northwest senior Brandon Bykerk had 18 points to lead Northwest. Hastings is now 10-8 on the season. Both Tiger teams will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 7th at Elkhorn. Northwest boys slip to 12-7 on the season. Northwest girls and boys will be back in action Friday at Schuyler. Then return home for their regular season finale vs Boon Central on Thursday, February 13th. Northwest at Beatrice the 14th will air live on 103.1 FM.
