New Grand Island Fire Recruits to Complete Ceremonial Ruck to City Hall
Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Fire Department's five newest Firefighter/EMT recruits will complete a ceremonial ruck to City Hall on Friday, June 19, marking the completion of their initial eight-week fire academy training.
The recruits will depart Fire Station No. 1, located at 409 E. Fonner Park Road, at 8 a.m. and travel in full firefighter turnout gear to City Hall, with an anticipated arrival time of approximately 8:20 a.m. Their route will take them west on Fonner Park Road and north on Pine Street before arriving at City Hall.
Upon arrival, the recruits will present Mayor Roger Steele with "Keep the Promise" cards as a symbol of their dedication and commitment to serving the Grand Island community. A brief reception will immediately follow in City Council Chambers, where Mayor Steele and other City staff members will provide remarks. Interview opportunities will also be available.

The ceremonial ruck serves as a capstone event following eight weeks of rigorous physical and mental training. While Friday marks the completion of the initial academy, the recruits will continue approximately four additional months of on-the-job training as members of Grand Island Fire Department engine and ambulance crew.
