Legislature Wraps Up Session, Voter ID Passes

State Capitol Lincoln

At the State Capital, the Nebraska Legislature wrapped up its 2023 session yesterday.

Despite being one of the more memorable contentious sessions Gov. Jim Pillen praised senators for what they accomplished.

The session did not end without one more day of drama as debate on voter ID raced to the finish line. Despite one final filibuster, the issue passed and was immediately signed by the Governor.

“I have been a steadfast supporter of voter ID for many years, and I thank the Legislature for its work on this bill,” Secretary Bob Evnen said. “The Legislature’s bill is a serviceable and lawful approach to voter ID that Nebraskans can support.”

The Secretary of State’s Office will be rolling out new training for county election officials and poll worker guidelines to ensure a smooth implementation.
