HFD Responds to House Fire

Hastings Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire at 6:22 p.m., on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 1004 Brentwood Ave. The occupants, a family of four, were home and evacuated safely. The family has two cats and a dog. The animals were also all safely evacuated. The cats received veterinary care following the incident. The dog did not need further assistance.

No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about 10 minutes and then worked to ventilate the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

The majority of the fire damage was to the garage and a Ford Escape parked at the residence. While the garage was heavily damaged, a fire-rated wall limited damage elsewhere in the home.  

The Hastings Police Department, Hastings Utility Department, City of Hastings Street Department and Hastings Rural Fire Department responded to the two-alarm fire as well.
