Hastings College Football Drops Game To Dordt

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College football team ran into a bit of a buzz saw on Saturday afternoon as the Dordt Defenders came away with the 61-21 victory on Homecoming out on Lloyd Wilson Field.

After Dordt took the lead 7-0, the teams would trade punts and after two short running plays, Eli Nappe found a streaking Will Austin for a 75-yard touchdown as Austin out ran the defensive backs of Dordt into the end zone to tie the game 7-7 midway through the first quarter.

From here on in, it was all Defenders as they built a 20 point halftime lead behind another touchdown and two field goals including a Great Plains Athletic Conference record 58 yard field goal from Stephen Leinen to end the half.

Hastings would pick up two Carson Kudlacek rushing touchdowns in the second half as Dordt pulled away for the 40 point win.

Hastings finished the game with 276 yards of offense compared to 657 for Dordt. Nappe went 9-for-18 for 141 yards and a score while Jagger Shaddix finished with 27 yards on six carries.

Marcus Dustin led the defense with a career high 14 tackles including one tackle for loss. Jaylen McCall had eight total tackles and three pass breakups with Gio Mendoza had four tackles and an interception. Caden Egr added eight tackles while Sam Ahl finished the game with seven tackles.

Hastings falls to 3-3 (2-3) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 7 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 1 Northwestern with kickoff set for 1:00 pm out in Orange City, IA.
