Grand Island Baseball Comes Up Just Short at District Tournament

Grand Island Islanders Baseball

(Grand Island, NE) - A battle to the end for the Grand Island baseball team on Saturday in Lincoln at Den Hartog Field in the A-2 District tournament. It would take the bottom of the 9th for Grand Island to sneak out a 4-3 win over Lincoln Northeast in game one of the day for the Islanders. Grand Island would force extra innings after tying the game in the bottom of the 7th at 3-3. After the win over the Rockets, Grand Island would have to turn around and take on Lincoln East in the championship game with the winner getting the automatic birth to the state tournament. East would prevail by a final score of 1-0. The Islanders see their spring season end with a record of 12-9. There is still an outside chance of Grand Island getting a wild card into the state tournament field depending on the outcome of the A-5 district tournament. The semi-finals of A-5 will be played Monday, May 8th at Creighton Prep.
