GIPD to Participate in Statewide Speed Enforcement Campaign

Grand Island Police

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department will participate in a statewide Speeding High Visibility Enforcement campaign from July 27 through August 9 to encourage safe driving and reduce speed-related crashes.

During the enforcement period, officers will conduct increased traffic enforcement with a focus on identifying and citing drivers who exceed posted speed limits. Speeding remains one of the leading contributing factors in fatal and serious injury crashes, and the campaign is intended to improve roadway safety by encouraging motorists to slow down and obey traffic laws.

The overtime enforcement effort is funded through a grant ($12,534.92) from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

The Grand Island Police Department reminds drivers to obey posted speed limits, slow down in construction zones and residential neighborhoods, allow extra travel time rather than speeding to reach a destination and stay alert and avoid distractions while driving. Motorists are also encouraged to buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive at a safe speed for conditions throughout the enforcement period and beyond.
