GICC State Run Comes To An End
(Lincoln, NE) - The state tournament run would come to an end for the Central Catholic girl's basketball team falling to Bridgeport 36-32 at Lincoln East High School in the 3rd place game. It would be a back-and-forth battle between the two teams who lost Friday in the state semi-finals. Bridgeport would lead 10-9 after the first quarter. GICC would bounce back in the second quarter 7-5 to take a 16-15 lead at the halftime break. Bridgeport would score double digits in the next two quarters to win the game by four points. The Bulldogs produced an 11-8 third quarter and a 10-8 fourth quarter. The Crusaders would cling to a one-point lead, 27-26, with 6:28 left in the game. Bridgeport would take the lead for good for the rest of the quarter going on an 8-0 run. GICC would try to make a comeback with a Bryndal Moody three-pointer with 42 seconds left, GICC would trail 34-32. Bridgeport would knock down two more free throws to seal the victory.
The season comes to an end for both teams. Bridgeport closes things out with a 27-1 record. The Bulldog's only loss on the season came Friday to Lincoln Christian in the state semi-final game, 51-32. GICC sees their season end with a 24-4 record.
