GI Pro Team Design Juniors Win Mid-Nebraska League Championship

(Kearney, NE) - Grand Island Pro Team Design won big over Gothenburg Post 64 Melons 11-3 on Sunday in the Mid-Nebraska League Championship game.

Gothenburg Post 64 Melons got on the board in the first inning after Andrew Salomon singled, scoring one run.

Judd Arends doubled to center field, which helped Grand Island Pro Team Design tie the game at one in the top of the second.

Grand Island Pro Team Design took the lead in the top of the third. Corbin Harpham laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, to give Grand Island Pro Team Design the upper hand, 2-1.

Gothenburg Post 64 Melons took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Evan Geiser singled down the left field line, and William McVay doubled to left field, each scoring one run.

A single by Jackson O’hara gave Grand Island Pro Team Design the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth.

Grand Island Pro Team Design scored five runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. An error scored two runs, Geiser induced Chris Barajas to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Arends singled, scoring two runs.

Harpham stepped on the mound first for Grand Island Pro Team Design. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and three runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. McVay led things off on the mound for Gothenburg Post 64 Melons. The starter surrendered two hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking five.

Arends, the number seven hitter for Grand Island Pro Team Design, led the way with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Arends and O’hara each collected two hits for Grand Island Pro Team Design. Grand Island Pro Team Design had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Barajas, Jaron Harwell, and O’hara led the team with two walks each. Barajas stole two bases.

Jaxon Earll led Gothenburg Post 64 Melons with two hits in two at-bats. Geiser, Salomon, and McVay each drove in one run for Gothenburg Post 64 Melons. 

Grand Island Pro Team Design is now 24-7 on the season.
