Lima Bean Takes Spotlight for "Cooking the Books"
Grand Island, Neb. — The oft-maligned lima bean (also known as the butter bean) is taking center stage as the primary ingredient at the February meeting of Grand Island Public Library’s “Cooking the Books.”

When improperly prepared, lima beans are known for their bitter, sulfurous taste. However, when cooked correctly they bring a nutty, mildly sweet flavor to a dish. Challenge your culinary skills (and perhaps conquer a childhood fear), and join us at “Cooking the Books.” The February meeting will take place on Saturday, February 15 at 12 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the Grand Island Public Library.

If you are a fan of food, cooking and trying new recipes, you will enjoy “Cooking the Books.” Participants will select a cookbook or other recipe, test it (or a few) and bring one of their creations to share with the group. Members will then discuss their cookbooks, the recipes, the cooking experience and more.

The full reading schedule of events for 2024-2025 Cooking the Books Book Club is available at https://gilibrary.org/services/adult-services/book-clubs.

Gentle Yoga Class Featured at Grand Island Public Library

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library wants you to not only visit, but take a seat!

The library is hosting a free chair yoga class with instructor Tracy Noble. Everyone knows the benefits of stretching and improving flexibility, but traditional yoga can be difficult for seniors, those with limited mobility or anyone who doesn’t regularly.

Using modified yoga stretches while seated or using the chair for stability is a great way to benefit from yoga without risking injury. Chair Yoga will take place on Friday, January 24 at 1 p.m. in Meeting Room BC of the Grand Island Public Library.
