GI Home Federal Picks Up 6-1 Win Over Kearney

(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal senior American Legion baseball team picked up a 6-1 win over Kearney Misko Sports on Tuesday night at Ryder Park. GI would get five and two-thirds innings from GISH grad Cohen Nelson throwing 109 pitches with 8 strikeouts giving up only four hits and one run on the night. Home Federal would be held scoreless trailing 1-0 through three innings. In the bottom of the fourth GI would take the lead on a bases-loaded situation as Sam Dinkelman would put a ball in play to bring in Ian Arends from third to tie the game at 1-1, but then a throwing error to first base would bring in another runner to score, Broxton Barrientos, to make it a 2-1 lead for GI. Home Federal would add two more runs in the half inning to lead 4-1. Grand Island added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sam Dinkelman led Home Federal with two hits and two RBIs. Arends had a hit and an RBI. Barrientos had two hits and an RBI. Grand Island is now 7-1 on the season and will be back in action this weekend participating in the Bellevue East tournament.
