GI Five Points Bank Falls To Kearney, 10-5

(Scottsbluff, NE) - Despite leading by as many as four runs, Grand Island Five Points Bank fell to Kearney Post 52 Juniors 10-5 on Saturday.

A walk by Landon Vasicek put Grand Island Five Points Bank on the board in the bottom of the second.

Kellen Jones singled down the right field line, which helped Kearney Post 52 Juniors tie the game at one in the top of the third.

Grand Island Five Points Bank took the lead in the bottom of the third. An error scored one run, to give Grand Island Five Points Bank the leg up, 2-1.

Jones tripled to center field on an 0-2 count, which helped Kearney Post 52 Juniors tie the game at five in the top of the seventh.

Kearney Post 52 Juniors flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Parker Mentzer that drove in two.

Austin Gilbert started the game for Grand Island Five Points Bank. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Sawyer Bruner opened the game for Kearney Post 52 Juniors. The hurler allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking four.

Vasicek led Grand Island Five Points Bank with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Jackson Gangwish and Gilbert each collected two hits for Grand Island Five Points Bank.

Kearney Post 52 Juniors collected 12 hits in the game. Jones drove the middle of the lineup, leading Kearney Post 52 Juniors with five runs batted in. The outfielder went 4-for-5 on the day. Collin Berggren and Brady Schaffner each collected multiple hits for Kearney Post 52 Juniors.
