GRAND ISLAND (Neb.) — The conversation surrounding the future operation of the smallest Elementary school in the Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) district continues.
After hearing public comments, district recommendations, and having discussion around the future operational status of Seedling Mile Elementary at last night's regular Board meeting, the Board of Education has decided to hold the Action Item vote on Tuesday, December 17th's already scheduled Special Board meeting. The goal in making the decision before winter break is to provide students, staff, families, and the community a decision as early in the school year as possible.
Notice of the Special Board Meeting was published in The Grand Island Independent on December 10th.
The agenda for the Special Board meeting will be to host onboarding for the new GIPS Board members from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Kneale Administration Building.
At 5:15 p.m., the Board will convene with the intention to have final discussions and make a decision about the operation of Seedling Mile Elementary for 2025-26. The Board will provide time for public comment at the 5:15 p.m. meeting time before the voting action item. Live stream of the 5:15 portion of the Special Meeting will be provided on the Grand Island Public Schools YouTube page.
Earlier in the month, GIPS Superintendent Matt Fisher shared a public message mapping out the timeline and the purpose of the discussion around Seedling Mile Elementary. Fisher's message may be found on the GIPS website HERE.
