Creighton Women Win At Xavier 82-54
Cincinnati, Ohio -- Behind a combined 40 points from seniors Lauren Jensen and Mallory Brake, Creighton Women's Basketball dispatched Xavier 82-54 on Wednesday, December 4.
The win lifted Creighton to 6-2 on the season and 1-0 in BIG EAST action, while Xavier fell to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Playing in front of better than 5,000 Xavier fans, mainly supplied by the Kids Day promotion that created the 10:00 am (CT) tip, the Bluejays took control midway through the opening quarter as Brake scored 11 in the opening 10 minutes to push the Bluejays out to a 21-12 lead after one. All 21 of the Creighton points came in bunches as Creighton used a trio of 7-0 bursts in the quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Jensen as the Minnesota native scored 10 in the frame, igniting an 8-0 surge with a trey with 6:38 remaining. During the stanza Creighton led by as much as 23 points (39-16 with 2:56 left) and took a 42-19 edge in at the half.
Creighton put the game away in the opening moments of the second half as the Bluejays scored the first nine points to extend their advantage to 51-19 (7:19).
Jensen led all scorers with 23 points, while Brake tied a career-high with 17 points and Morgan Maly finished the game with 12 points. Xavier got 21 points from Loren Christie in the loss.
Brake also torched the Musketeers for 17 points last season in the Cintas Center on February 6, 2024.
Creighton returns to the court on Saturday, December 7 at Northern Iowa at 2:00 p.m., the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
