Arrests of persons who physically assaulted a Grand Island man

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department is investigating a physical assault that occurred late Sunday evening in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in downtown Grand Island.  The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Matthew A. Bishop of Grand Island.

Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:12 p.m. and determined the male victim had been physically assaulted in the middle of the street and was found unresponsive on the ground.  He was transported by Grand Island Ambulance to CHI St. Francis Emergency Room.  He was later transferred to CHI Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha for a higher level of care.  He is still on a ventilator with severe disabling injuries.


The investigation identified two Grand Island residents as being in physical confrontation with the victim, leaving the victim laying in the roadway on 3rd St.   During the afternoon of Tuesday July 7th, Grand Island Police arrested these two subjects who have been booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections for 1st Degree Assault.
