Update Arrest Made - 16 yr old GI Native Found Dead In Texas Apartment

(Update/Sunday, December 10th) Edna, TX Police Department Release - On Saturday, December 9th, 2023, with the help of the community, friends, and family, Edna Police Department, in conjuctions with the Texas Rangers, were able to apprehend the person responsible for the death of Lizbeth Medina.

With countless hours put into this investigations, we were able to locate an undocumented male subject identified as Rafael Govea Romero in the city of Schulenburg. Edna Police Department and Texas Rangers imediately traveled to Schulenburg where Romero was placed under arrest for Capital Murder and transported to the Jackson County Jail. 

Although Romero is apprehended, we recognize Lizbeth's family and friends are grieving and will still need support from the community. The citizens of Edna can now sleep in peace.

(Edna, Texas) - On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at approximately 6:57 PM, Officers from the Edna Police Department were dispatched to Cottonwood Apartments in reference to an unresponsive juvenile. Upon arrival, Officers believed the juvenile to be deceased. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene in an attempt to provide medical service. Responding Officers contacted Investigators with the Edna Police Department to lead this investigation.

During the investigation, it was determined the juvenile was deceased. Later identified as 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina who was born and raised in Grand Island, NE before moving and living in Edna, TX for a year. When in Grand Island she attended Grand Island Public Schools until 2020. 

The time of death was confirmed by the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1. Edna Police Department contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Ranger Division to assist in what Investigators believe to be a Capital Murder. Investigators are working diligently to find the people and/or person responsible. )f anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Edna Police Department at 361-782-6522. In a Facebook post earlier this morning (Friday, December 8th) the Edna Police Department continued to encourage community members to remain vigilant as they are treating the case as a homicide.
